Three times...

Allentown, PA - Agricultural Hall - January 22, 1980
Championship Wrestling taping:
Aired February 2, 1980
Bruno Sammartino defeated Larry Zbyszko by DQ at 9:34 when Zbyzsko threw the referee to the floor and hit Sammartino in the head with a wooden chair three times, busting him open

New York, NY - Madison Square Garden - October 21, 1985 (19,000)
Bruno Sammartino as a guest of Piper's Pit in which Sammartino demanded Bob Orton leave the ring so that Piper could conduct the interview one-on-one; moments later, after receiving a number of insults from Piper, Sammartino shoved him down and was then assaulted by a chair; Sammartino eventually chased Piper away with the chair

Binghamton, NY - Broome County Arena - October 28, 1986 (6,400)
WWF Superstars taping:
Aired November 22, 1986
WWF IC Champion Randy Savage (w/ Miss Elizabeth) defeated Ricky Steamboat via count-out after crushing Steamboat’s throat against the guardrail, after hitting a double axe handle from the top at 7:03; after the match, Savage attacked Steamboat's larynx with the timekeeper's bell, jumping from the top rope, taking him out of action for several months; moments thereafter, Steamboat was taken from ringside on a stretcher

Bruno's matches with Zbyszko in 1980, Piper in late 1985/early 1986, and Savage in late 1986 helped the WWF greatly!

So when did Bruno begin his first stint as a color commentator alongside Vince? Also when did his second stint begin as I know it ended in 1988 but can't remember when it began.

November 1978 - October 1980
September 1984 - January 1988

So was Bruno still a f/t wrestler during his first run as a commentator or was he still p/t like he was from 84-88?

Bruno debuted on October 10, 1978 as a color commentator on Championship Wrestling and All Star Wrestling TV tapings. After losing the title to Graham in April 1977, Bruno wrestled on a part-time basis for the next 2 1/2 years (he usually wrestled at the big arenas - New York City Madison Square Garden, Boston Garden, Pittsburgh Civic Arena, Philadelphia Spectrum, and Baltimore Civic Center). He would usually wrestle about three or four times per month in 1978 and 1979. The feud with Zbyszko brought him out of retirement.

He came back on September 11, 1984, after a three year absence, in order to push his son, David. If you wan to hear a pop, watch the end of this match

New York, NY - Madison Square Garden - November 26, 1984 (22,090)
Televised on MSG Network - included Gorilla Monsoon & Lord Alfred Hayes on commentary:
Prime Time Wrestling - 1/8/85: David Sammartino (w/ Bruno Sammartino) defeated Ken Patera (w/ Lou Albano) by DQ at 12:24 when Albano tripped David from the outside. After the bout, Bruno chased Albano in and out of the ring (Bruno's MSG return after a 4-year absence)

The fans are going crazy!!!!!!!!
