Hulk Hogan's Rock And Wrestling

On September 21st, 1985, during the peak of the "Rock and Wrestling Connection", WWE did the unthinkable; they decided to produce a cartoon series. But not just any cartoon series, mind you; this one would be for Saturday mornings. It would, naturally, have the champion all over it. And it would have the rest of thier star roster starring in it as well. The name of this series would be Hulk Hogan's Rock N' Wrestling!

CBS, for two seasons, ran the DIC produced "Hulk Hogan's Rock N' Wrestling!". The animated bits were mixed together with live-action skits with real wrestlers. Hulk Hogan's animated voice was done by Brad Garrett, of "Everybody Loves Raymond" fame, and the theme was performed by a group of musicians known simply as "The World Wrestling Federation All-Stars"; a "house band", of sorts. But moving back to the subject of the live action skits, those were my personal favorite part of the show. I mean, where else would you see "Rowdy" Roddy Piper flirt with some lady, and then make her motor start like magic? Or see Captain Lou Albano give Tito Santana a bitten into sandwich? This stuff was what dreams were made of, man! At least, for me. I wanted the wrestlers' lives to be this wacky! Hell, I remember one writer saying once that Ric Flair had a conga line. Hell, I wanted to believe that crap! Hence, the beauty of Rock N' Wrestling, my dears.

Now, according to Hulk Hogan, from his autobiography, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, to be on the cartoon, you had to be on TV. He explains: "One of the things Vince (McMahon Jr.) was strictest about was drugs. And as soon as you wrote a wrestler into the show, bam, he would fail a drug test. It was a random test, given every three weeks. You would come to a TV and they would pick ten to fifteen guys to be tested. You would never know who it was going to be. And every so often, somebody failed. Another promoter might have said, 'All right, try to clean it up.' But not Vince. He would shoot himself in the foot, bang, and take the guy off TV. And the rule was you had to be on TV to be on the cartoon show. We had four or five guys who were major players in the cartoon who either quit or died or couldn't pass the drug test. So to keep the cartoon alive you had to keep these guys walking the straight and narrow. It was a constant grind--but not for me. All I had to do was show up in Baltimore every month to produce my ins and outs." I guess that explains Madd Maxine (early ads for "Rock N Wrestling show women's star Madd Maxine, some people say that she was removed from the show and the company because of drug abuse).

Below, you will find a list of every single Hulk Hogan's Rock N' Wrestling! episode ever produced, including an unaired pilot. Note also, that before the shows demise, a character was added; Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. You will also find a cast listing.
