WCW WORLDWIDE 22ND DECEMBER 1996

This episode of WCW Worldwide takes place one week before Starrcade 1996, and should be quite good fun. Letís get down to it.
Taped from the Disney MGM studios in Orlando, Florida
Your hosts are Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan.
They hype all the action. All sounds good aside from Konnan and Big Bubba teaming.

MATCH 1- CHRIS JERICHO VS BUTCH LONG
What a dull jobber name.
They lock up and Jericho owns Long on the mat. Side headlock by Jericho, and he gets an arm drag and a hip toss. Another arm drag into an arm bar by Jericho. He chops Long, but Butch drops him into the ropes. He chokes him with his foot. He rams him into the turnbuckles and gets a running clothesline. Jericho gets the boot up on a charge and gets a back elbow off the top. Dropkick, slam, Lionsault by Jericho, and a missile dropkick does it.
Rating- ĺ *- Energetic squash.

Tony heads to the back to wish everyone a merry Christmas. Heenan comes in, and they hype Hollywood Hogan Vs Roddy Piper at Starrcade. Heenan thinks Piper will win, and Schiavone agrees.

MATCH 2- KONNAN AND BIG BUBBA VS JOHNNY BOONE AND ROD THOMPSON
Now, Rod Thompson sounds like the kind of guy I can get behind.
Big Bubba attacks before the bell. Konnan gets a clothesline to Thompson. Bubba shoulderblocks Boone, but Boone counters with a dropkick and tags in Thompson, who is met with a clothesline. Konnan comes in and fires away. He powerbombs Thompson. Rogers comes in and Thompson attempts to fire back, but fails. Rogers hits a back breaker. Konnan gets a dropkick. A vertical suplex is hit and Rogers is in. Rogers punches him in the gut. He hits a piledriver-powerbomb type thing and Konnan gets a seated dropkick. He gets a bear hug and drops him on his head for three. Boone tries to make the save, but gets Boss man Slammed.
Rating- Ĺ *- The quick tags of Konnan and Rogers stopped this from getting too boring.

More hype for Hogan-Piper.

MATCH 3- MICHAEL WALLSTREET VS KENNY KENDALL
Wallstreet is of course I.R.S.
They lock up and Kendall gets an arm drag. Wallstreet and Kendall exchange go behinds, and Wallstreet throws down Kendall off a top wristlock. Kendall counters a sunset flip and grabs a side headlock. Wallstreet hits a kick to the gut and throws him to the floor. Wallstreet beats on him on the outside. Back in Wallstreet gets a sleeper hold. He continues to work the sleeper. Kendall gets a jaw breaker but misses an elbow and Wallstreet grounds Kendall with a leg lock. Kendall fights back by ramming Wallstreet repeatedly into the turnbuckle. Wallstreet shrugs him off and gets the Stock Market Crash and gets the win.
Rating- DUD- Not at all interesting.

MATCH 4- GALAXY AND CICLOPE VS JOE GOMEZ AND RENEGADE
As long as the Luchadors stay in control this one should be pretty decent.
Galaxy and Gomez lock up and Gomez gets a hip toss and a belly to belly suplex. Gomez hits a clothesline to the corner. Galaxy gets a stinger splash and an arm drag from the top rope. Ciclope comes in and gets met with a clothesline. In comes the Renegade who falls victim to double teams. Renegade gets a crossbody and a backflip elbow. Impressive. He screws up a facebuster and gets the win. Not so impressive.
Rating- ĺ *- Acceptable tag action.

Post match the Nasties assault the winners and demand respect.
We see some highlights from Lex Lugerís saga. We then hype Starrcade again.

MATCH 5- HIGH VOLTAGE VS LOS GUERREROS
High Voltage attacks before the bell. They toss Eddie and hit a double back drop on Chavo. Eddie comes back in and Los Guerreros double team Kenny Kaos. Kaos hits a back suplex on Chavo. Robby Rage comes in and stomps away on Chavo. Kaos gets a press slam and grabs a chin lock. In comes Robby Rage who elbows Chavo. They work over Chavo in a boring way. Stomping and rest holds are the foundation of mediocre wrestlers. Chavo gets a back suplex on Kaos and makes the MILD TAG! Eddie and Chavo pick things up with a double brainbuster. Chavo planchas onto Kaos and Rage is frog splashed for the win.
Rating- ĺ *- Great when Los Guerreros were in control. Pity that wasnít often.

MAIN EVENT- HUGH MORRUS VS LEX LUGER
I should note that the dialogue between Schiavone and Heenan throughout the night over a missing watch has been constantly amusing.
They circle and lock up. Morrus with the side headlock. Luger powers out but gets knocked down. Morrus hits a knee to the midsection and hits a body slam. Morrus kicks him in the gut and gets a vertical suplex. Boy, I think Morrus is going to win. Luger shows FIGHTING SPIRIT~! He fires back with a suplex and shoulder block. Morrus slows the pace down. Morrus hits a running elbow in the corner. Back elbow by Morrus. Morrus chokes Luger. He clotheslines him in the head. Luger gets a back suplex. He hammers on him with right hands and gets a flying clothesline for the near fall. Luger gets the Torture Rack and that does it.
Rating- *- Pretty decent actually, but very short.

Final Thoughts- Hey, itís a one hour show with six matches in it, what do you expect? Fun, but nothing must watch about it.
